HEALING DOESN'T HAVE TO BE HARSH AND LONELY
Updated: Jun 5
Healing can be gentle, measured, surrendered, trusting, punctuated by moments of pure joy and beauty, and done in community.
The descent into the Underworld, journey through the dark places of your being, opening of the Pandora box and integration of your deepest trauma, although it's a personal enterprise, doesn't have to be endured alone.
Yes, no one is going to face, feel and integrate it for you.
But healing also means leaning on the support of a therapeutic container, on the guidance of someone who's been there before you, finding allies in the Otherworlds, holding a friend's hand while feeling it all, asking for help getting through the day.
I've had the chance to be supported through my many dark nights of the soul, and in the hardest days, I remember clinging to it as a last resort, like a rope preventing me from falling deeper into the abyss.
Yet most of the time, I tended to think that I could do it alone (like everything else), that it was my personal burden to deal with, and that in the meantime, I had to keep it together for others too.
I always chose the harsh way, proving myself that I was strong, able, independent, in control.
And also because I didn't know how to soften enough to receive help, to accept someone's presence without feeling guilty taking up their time and space, or simply to show myself vulnerable.
In the moments I was on my own, waves of despair reached out to me - I reproduced what I knew and was imprinted in me, abandonment and solitude.
I've been hurt on my healing journey because of not asking and opening up to help - by choosing the harsh way, I made healing harder.
My own journey and my work as a mentor and at the latest retreats in Ecuador make it very clear to me that there is medicine in the simple fact of allowing others/a container/a spirit to hold you - the medicine of interconnectedness + the medicine of surrender.
Surrendering is a major step to healing (if not the most important) - trusting the process, letting the divine orchestration of things lead the way, enduring the descent, knowing that this is part of the rising.
Together, we are stronger, safer, and wiser.
